The world is rather astounding when I stop to think about it. I've been reading a lot about the universe and nerdy physics stuff and I'm kind of blown away that anything exists in a physical form at all...

Re: The Limitations of Labels and Redefining your Identity

I'm so happy to hear that this post is Divinely timed for you, Jul's! I always thought of myself as an extrovert growing up, though I enjoyed my own company. Lately I have felt like an introvert, and this made me think that I have labeled myself and that can be very limiting, self-limiting. I am letting go of the safety and limitation of labels. After all, to my mind, we are complex, multi-faceted beings. The more I love and accept myself, the more I can get out of my own way.

I really loved your video because it was so intimately real.

Great post!
Jul's

Re: The Limitations of Labels and Redefining your Identity

YES! I remember you sharing that on January's intention setting blog, and you are absolutely embodying the essence of how you want to express yourself this year - and we're only a month in :).

Looking forward to seeing how your vulnerability, visibility, and voice continue to show up over the coming year!

Re: The Limitations of Labels and Redefining your Identity

My words for 2015 are vulnerability, visibility and voice. And I also agree with the limitations of labels. I actually wrote a reflection on labels based on something that Eckhart Tolle wrote. It's called "We Call It Bird" (and I don't remember now how much of this was Eckhart's wording and how much was my own . . . I was reflecting on his stuff a number of years ago). I thought I'd share it here because I agree that we're so much more than the labels and I love how you're encouraging us to explore ourselves beyond them.

We Call it Bird

We call it "bird."

But it's essence. It's life.

It's an expression or creation of Life.

It's life in a particular form.

We call that form "bird."

With "bird" we associate things like wings, flight, chirping, flying into windows, stupid, dirty, feathers, beaks, poop, worms, trees, nests.

This becomes its identity.

Yet, the beingness or essence that is the "bird" is rarely known.

Our connection with that essence is rarely experienced.

So we don't "see" it and love it and treasure it and be with it.

It's the same with our fellow human beings.

We call it "human."

But it's essence. It's life.

It's an expression or creation of Life.

It's life in a particular form.

We call that form "human."

More specifically, we may call that form "woman," "wife," "mother," "friend," "sister," "Julie."

We may associate brown hair, pretty, calm, stubborn, the house down the street, Ukrainian, Canadian, Buddhist, cancer-survivor, teacher, narrow-minded, intelligent . . . or any other characteristic . . . with "Julie."

This becomes who "Julie" is.

Yet, the beingness or essence that truly is "Julie" is rarely known.

Our connection with that essence is rarely experienced. So we don't "see" it or love it or treasure it or be with the "is-ness" that is "Julie."

We judge.

We like or dislike.

We associate or dismiss.

We mistreat.

We ignore.

We go about our own business, unaware of "Julie's" beingness . . . and unaware of our own.

We're:

striving . . . to earn, to learn, to be right, to get through the day, to achieve, to be seen, to escape, to find "more"

busy
doing

constantly
accumulating

We're rarely just being. Rarely just being with God/Source/Spirit, creation, others, ourselves. Rarely just being
who we really are . . .

. . . loving

. . . at peace

. . . in each moment

Re: The Limitations of Labels and Redefining your Identity

Isn't he brilliant, even when he's being ridiculously offensive?

And I LOVE that you bring the "flipside of success" into the conversation; YES! If you are identified as "successful" in the moment, there is no room for vulnerability or from learning from mistakes and failure.

Re: How Intention Setting Can Help You Create What You Really Want

Oh I love the way you're approaching the new year - as a beautiful series of moments meant to be eased into!

I have yet to read "simple abundance," but it sounds very aligned with the life I'm creating - thank you for sharing your experience, April, and, in doing so, inviting me to expand into my own!

Re: How Intention Setting Can Help You Create What You Really Want

"I know what you’re thinking…dear Lord, that woman writes long texts!"
